Eric M. Green

Eric M. Green, 69, of Newark, Delaware passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 13, 2025. He was born in Wilmington on November 26, 1956.

Eric attended St Peter's Cathedral Grade School, Wilmington, where he served as an altar boy. He graduated from Wilmington High School Class of 1974 and attended Goldey-Beacom College.

He started his career working at Dupont in the mail department before attending the Wilmington Police Academy.

Eric was a beloved officer with the Wilmington Police Department for 28 years, known for bringing laughter to his fellow officers. Following his retirement from the department, he launched into a new chapter professionally, finding fulfillment as a hall monitor at Delcastle Technical High School for 14 years, where he valued the interactions with both staff and students.

Eric was an advocate for healthy living and regular exercise which included daily walking. He was a dedicated fitness enthusiast who actively engaged over the years in numerous physical pursuits, including court sports at the YMCA like racquetball and basketball, cycling and being an avid fan of professional sports. Eric was a music enthusiast with a passion for all genres, including R&B, Funk, Soul, Jazz and Rock. One of his all time favorite bands was Chicago. He also dabbled in music composition. He performed as the keyboardist with a local band during his early years on the police force. He also collected keyboards along with a vast collection of sneakers which he amassed through the years. Eric had a keen interest in muscle cars and enjoyed watching televised drag racing events. He was very proud of his Dodge Challenger Scat Pack, always taking meticulous care of it. He enjoyed cooking and barbecuing, especially known for his chicken wings.

Eric leaves behind his wife, Diane DiNorscia Green, his beloved partner of more than 19 years of marriage and 24 years together, who will forever cherish his memory; his daughter, Shanice "Niecy" Jones; his mother, Blanche Dungee Green; and his brother, Alvin Green. He is also survived by his former daughter-in-law and friend, Pia Jones; his brother-in-law, Richard DiNorscia; his sister-in-law, Antoinette "Toni" Isaacs; along with a host of extended family members and friends, including his dear cousin, Dr. Arlene Smalls, whose extensive support was invaluable.

Eric was predeceased by his father, Marcus Green; his brother, Marvin Green; his mother-in-law, Ida DiNorscia; and his sister-in-law, Marlene Reinhart.

Diane and Niecy would like to thank the staff at Christiana Care and the University of Pennsylvania Hospital for the loving care given to Eric.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, January 2 from 9:00 – 11:00AM, with funeral services immediately following.
