I knew Eric from working at Postal Plus. He was one of our regular customers, bringing in Greenjak's packages at least once a week, but often more.
I'll always remember Eric for his kindness to us workers. He never made me feel rushed when I was working on his shipments, even when I was brand new and quite inexperienced! He always shared a smile and was super friendly.
I remember that Eric would strike up a conversation with each of us workers, and he would remember what we shared with him. When I went away on vacation, he was sure to ask about my trip next time he saw me. When he heard I was moving away to Oklahoma in July, he made sure to express how much I'd be missed.
His thoughtfulness carried over into other special expressions too. Several times, Eric would bring us tacos at work, "just because." But I'll think of Eric most every time I see a York peppermint patty.
We had a jar full of these mints that we kept on the shelf at Postal Plus. Every time Eric came in, without fail, he would buy five mints: one for himself and the other four for us workers. It was such a small but important expression of thoughtfulness every time I saw him. Sometimes that mint was just the treat I needed to keep smiling and make it through the rest of the rush at work.
Twice this past summer, we ran out of mints. I hated to think that Eric wouldn't have his mints when he came in. So I went down to Big Lots to get a small bag to carry us over until the store could order a bigger supply. After Eric found out about that, he would pay me with a dollar for his usual five mints and then say "keep the change." This was just another way that Eric shared his thoughtfulness with us, expressing his love every day.
I'm saddened to hear of Eric's passing. He was a thoughtful friend and he will be greatly missed. Prayers to the entire Horn family as they walk through this difficult time. I am praying for our Father in heaven to "bind up your broken hearts and bring healing" (Psalm 147:3). He is grieving with us during this devastating time.
