Eric Howard Latimer Sr.

1937 - 2025

Eric Howard Latimer, Sr., 87 of Richmond, passed away January 23, 2025 at Berkshire Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Eric H. Latimer, Sr., (Rick/Pa) was born in Pittsfield on March 10, 1937 to the late Howard and Katherine Gavitt Latimer. He was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.

He married the former Beverly Ann Osterhout on June 13, 1959. She predeceased him just 12 days prior to his passing. They shared 65 years of a beautiful life together.

For over 40 years Rick worked as head custodian for the Richmond Consolidated School and also drove school bus for Dufour Bus during this time. After retiring from the school department, he continued part-time working for the town Highway Department which he enjoyed immensely. Some of Rick's prior employment included Coca Cola, Westend Sheetmetal, and Vosburgh Builders. He also was a volunteer fireman and constable in Richmond and had been a member of the National Guard.

What Rick enjoyed most was coaching alpine skiing from 1969 to 2019 at Bousquet Ski Area. He coached at all levels and his deep technical knowledge and passion for ski racing left a lasting impact on everyone he mentored. His greatest joy was coaching his children and grandchildren and spending time on the slopes with them. His second passion was for hunting where in his later years he was able to go to Ohio for hunting trips with his son Marc.

He also took pleasure in biking, yardwork, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Latimer is survived by his children, Joyce Lamont and significant other Steve Gamari of North Adams, Eric Latimer, Jr., and wife Kim Waterhouse of Pittsfield, and Marc Latimer and wife Michelle of Pittsfield. His brother James and Susan Latimer, of Yarmouthport, MA and sister Patsy Nolin of Greenville, SC. His brothers in-law Robert Osterhout, Sr., of West Stockbridge, Edward Osterhout (Caren) of Rockport, sisters in-law Ellen Hall of Pittsfield, Irene Williams (Richard) of Dalton, and Karen Buratto (Bruce) of Lee and many nieces and nephews.

He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Erin Latimer, Ryan (Ryan) Lamont, Amy Beth Lamont, Kyle (Ashley) Lamont, Alyssa Latimer (Hayden Jarck), and Cody Latimer. As well as his great-grandchildren, Logan Wooliver, Carson Wooliver, Eric Cimini, Bennett Cimini, Parker Lamont, Zoie Lamont, Payton Lamont, and Emmett James Lamont.

He was predeceased by his wife, Beverly and his grandson, Eric Latimer, III.

FUNERAL NOTICE: As we were unable to have calling hours for Beverly's passing, there will be joint calling hours for both Eric and Beverly Latimer on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 3 to 6 pm at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rick's name to the Richmond Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
