Eric Alexander Moore, born October 23, 1941, in Albany, New York, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and four children after a brief illness. He was 84 years old.
Eric was a proud graduate of the Albany Academy, Class of 1959, where he excelled in both football and swimming. His athletic achievements were remarkable, with records that still stand today-a testament to his dedication and talent. Following his graduation, Eric swam for Bucknell University, where he medaled in the Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming Championships.
His passion for swimming continued throughout his life. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he competed with the Syracuse Masters Swim Club, participating in the Empire State Games. In 1993, he earned national Top 10 recognition in the 500-yard freestyle, and in 1996 he was honored as the MVP of the Syracuse Masters Swim Club. In 2019, Eric was inducted into The Albany Academy Alumni Association Athletic Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute to his lifelong dedication to athletics.
Eric spent his life in communities across Albany, Schoharie, and Syracuse, New York, and later in New Albany, Indiana. His career began in banking, and he later dedicated many years to the Synod of the Northeast (Presbyterian Church) before concluding his professional journey with the Presbyterian Investment and Loan Program. His work reflected both his professional skill and his deep commitment to faith and service.
Eric also devoted much of his time to giving back to the community. He volunteered to help rebuild after Hurricane Katrina, delivered meals through Meals on Wheels, and spent countless hours ensuring that the buildings and grounds of PYOCA Camp and Retreat Center were safe, well cared for, and beautiful. His service to others was a reflection of his generous spirit and his belief in strengthening community.
Eric and his wife shared a love of travel that took them to many states and abroad, including family visits to South Africa, Malaysia, Sweden, Scotland, and England. He found joy in discovering new places, meeting people, and learning about his heritage. Closer to home, he especially cherished time spent along the coasts of Maine and New Hampshire with his family. His lifelong love of the ocean was inspired by summers as a child visiting Long Island, and it remained a source of peace and happiness throughout his life.
In his retirement, Eric enjoyed gardening with his amazing neighbors, the Baker family, and took great pride in nurturing the beauty of his surroundings. Eric and his wife were also known for hosting many social gatherings at their home, where they warmly welcomed friends from work and church. These moments of fellowship reflected their generosity, hospitality, and joy in being with those who were important to them.
Eric was predeceased by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. James A. Moore of Albany, NY, and his brother James C. Moore of Rochester, NY. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet; daughter Helen Mason (Russell) of Durham, NH; son Chris Moore (Catherine) of Austin, TX; son Greg Moore (Chris) of Solon, NY; and daughter Jodi Egan (Scott) of Durham, NH. He is also remembered with love by his grandchildren: Craig Mason (Renata), Michelle Mason (Michael Statt), Deidra Moore, Eric V. Moore, Nicole Moore, Thomas Moore, Richard Moore (Jennifer), Samantha Phoenix (Kyle), Olivia Egan, and Matthew Egan; his brother Kenneth Moore (Karolee) of Schenectady, NY; and four great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff of the University of Louisville Hospital, especially Lauren and Makayla, for the incredible care they gave to Eric during this challenging time and for the compassion they showed to his family.
All are welcome to join the family in a memorial service on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 222 Walnut Street,
Jeffersonville, IN 47130. A reception will be provided immediately following.
