Today would have been my dear brother Eric´s 78th birthday. The oldest
Brother of 6. He was an intellectual scientist, mild mannered, quiet & handsome.
We were all so proud of him and he loved being around family & friends.
Fishing, rock collecting, fish aquariums, classic car shows, rock concerts,
And tinkering on his blue Cobra sports car were just a few of his passions.
Our other brothers loved to visit and help (and fish).
When Eric was in elementary school, he craved science, rock, & chemistry
Sets. We always knew what Eric was getting for Christmas.
This was his calling. Science, medicine & pharmacology would lead him to
A coveted PHD from Columbia University in N.Y. as Dr. Eric G Spokas.
So bright that Eric could replace an auto engine (Austin-Healey Sprite) with
Wenches hung from beams of the family garage. (With a little help from his
Best friends, fellow brilliant scientists, Greg Olsen and Hugh Houghton)
Eric joined the Huntington Sports Car Club in L.I. New York. He loved the rush
And speed of driving a fun sports car. He had owned Benz SL450, MGs & a Cobra.
Eric had lovely girlfriends but none lovelier than Paula, the nurse. Pretty with a
Loving personality, she would become the perfect match in love for eternity.
Paula was very patient with Eric as he was notorious for being "late" frequently.
No, all the time. Eric finally proposed and married his love and was blessed with
2 beautiful devoted daughters. Eric´s career in research and science allowed him
Limitless opportunities. He landed his first research job at Searle in NY.
Later, Eric came home with a brand new muscle car, a dark green Camaro 450.
His continued research at University Labs and teaching University classrooms, Dr. Spokas proved his mark. Once, at Huntington Hospital, Eric met an anesthesiologist
Whom had been at our mother´s bedside. He was a former student of Eric´s! On
Occasion, I could visit Eric at his labs and meet his colleagues. Once I even flew to
Milan, Italy and met with him while he was on a project. Eric had learned enough
Italian so we could get around the City. That was fun! On occasion, Eric and his
Family would meet me on layovers. That was fun too!
So many fond loving memories of Eric. I am proud to have been his youngest sister
And I know our other sister, Jeannette was just as proud.
Rest In Peace, Eric. With Love, Kitty
