Erlinda Gonzales Obituary
Erlinda Lopez Gonzales, age 100, a lifelong resident of De Baca County passed away Friday, September 08, 2023 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell. She was born in Alamogordo, north of Lake Sumner, on March 23, 1923 to the home of Dario and Feliciana (Sena) Lopez. Erlinda attended school at Alamogordo.
Erlinda was a homemaker. She was a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Eagles Auxiliary, and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.
Erlinda was honored by the De Baca County Chamber of Commerce as the 2023 Old Fort Days Parade Grand Marshall.
Erlinda is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfredo Gonzales, a niece she raised Barbara Lopez, three brothers: David Lopez who she raised as a son, Aurelio Lopez, and Augustine Lopez, two sisters Amada Chavez and Maggie Lucero, 2 infant brothers Amable Lopez and Salomon Lopez, and an infant sister, Delia Lopez.
Tia Erlinda is survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation hours will be Thursday from 1pm to 5pm at the Chavez Funeral Home, and Friday from 9am to 10am at the Church.
Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Thursday, September 14, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Friday, September 15, 2023 from St. Anthony Parish with Father Moses Nwankwo officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will include David Lopez, Joseph Lopez, Damien Cardona, Pete Madero Jr., Harley Lopez, and David Roybal. Honorary bearers will include Mario Montoya, Bobby Lopez, Carlos Lopez, Aurelio Lopez, David Lopez Sr., Jason Lopez, Alonso Madero, Gary Roybal, Christopher Roybal, and Gary Paul Roybal.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, New Mexico. (575) 355-2311.
