Erma (Bright) Byrd, 83, of Mill Street, Lyon Mountain, NY, passed away on August 18, 2022 at Meadowbrook nursing home with her loving family by her side.
She leaves behind many loved ones: her daughter, Bonnie Gero and son-in-law, Victor Gero; daughter-in-law Lynn Byrd; her beloved sister and brothers Barbara Morgan, Kenneth and Kelly Cain, grandchildren Christine Gero, Steven Gero and Tiffany Provost, Kimberly and Patrick Cornell, Jennie and Miguel Chinchilla, and Heidi Brassard; and 10 great grandchildren. She had so many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Donald Byrd, her beloved son William Byrd, her parents, her sisters Catherine Peters, Francis Henderson and Wanda Evelyn (Bright) Hetrick, and her special grandmother Lena Rowe.
Erma was born on December 29, 1938 in Churchville, VA to her father Robert Homer Bright, and her mother Mary Elizabeth Gough. Erma was a happily married and dedicated military wife to Donald Byrd who served in the Navy and Air Force for 22 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, camping, cooking and garage sailing. She greatly appreciated Meals on Wheels and the Meadowbrook staff. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday August 23, 2022 at 10:30 am at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh, burial will follow in Lyon Mountain, NY.
Donations in Erma's memory may be made to Meals on Wheels or the Lyon Mountain Fire Department.

They say when you pass on that people won't remember the house you lived in or the clothes your wore; what they will remember is how you made them feel. It's been several decades since I last saw Erma (I'm thinking at great-grandma Doris' funeral?), but I still remember what a sweet, kind (and fun!) person she was. We exchanged Christmas cards regularly up until just a few years ago, but I've continued to think of her often. We can all aspire to leave such a lasting memory and feeling of fondness! My deepest condolences to the family...
