Erminia (Mimi) Josephine Smith has passed away on November 26th, 2025, at the age of 85. Mimi was born February 7th of 1940, in Detroit, Michigan to Leo and Elide Niffeler (Nee. Rossini). Mimi married Kenneth Smith of Windsor, Ontario on July 25th 1959 at St. Basil’s in Eastpointe. Mimi and Ken had 2 sons in the early 60’s and traveled extensively overseas and within the United States. They were passionate about the outdoors and frequently hiked and foraged for mushrooms in northern Michigan. Mimi worked as a registered nurse, first starting at Harrison Hospital then working at MORC. After her retirement she volunteered as a nurse for the Red Cross to help in southern Louisiana post hurricane Katrina and Rita aftermath. She kept herself occupied with volunteering throughout her retirement, working with the Lions Club Bear Lake as a camp nurse, volunteered at Lake Orion Fish Food Pantry, and as a museum docent for the Oxford Historical Society. She kept her nursing license renewed and active well into her 70’s. She was deeply passionate about animals and rescued several dogs throughout her lifetime and kept a lineage of rescued west highland terriers, as they were her favorite dog breed. Mimi enjoyed her creative pursuits, spending her free time painting, scrapbooking, and gardening when she wasn’t spending time with her family or grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Elide Niffeler, her husband Kenneth, her son Bryce, and her grandson Robert. She is survived by her son Timothy (Ann), her brother Leo (Jacqueline), and her grandchildren Devin, Dylan, Collin, Courtney, Brandon, and Kyle; as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
