Ernest Ashby Obituary

Born on January 15, 1957 in Washington, DC, he was a son of the late Andrew Wilkerson Ashby ad Mary Louise (Vermillion) Jackson. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Alan Ashby.
Mr. Ashby was retired having worked in the auto glass industry in Virginia with both Banner Glass and Safe Lite Auto Glass. He attended the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Short Gap, WV.
Known for his love for animals, he notably took care of many of the stray cats in Fort Ashby, especially the ones near the Dollar General Store, feeding them and loving them. He was always ready to lend a hand to help anyone in need, especially his adopted family, the Will Metz family.
Surviving is his stepmother, Judy (Bright) Ashby of Broad Run, VA; two brothers, William Ashby and wife Susan of Fredericksburg, VA and Calvin Ashby of Manassas, VA ; his adopted family, Will Metz, Heather Fields, Embry Metz, Chevy Rae Metz and Evalee Metz and many other close friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date with times to be announced.
The Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, Keyser, is in charge of the arrangements.
