Ernest J. Broadhead

Ernest J. Broadhead passed away peacefully in his home from natural causes, with his wife by his side, on July 22, 2025, in Parrish, FL. Born on June 20, 1939, in Crandall, MS, Ernest's journey through life was marked by his analytical mind and the deep love he had for his family, especially his devoted wife, Debra, with whom he shared 49 wonderful years of marriage.

A distinguished student, Ernest graduated as Valedictorian of his high school class, laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning and achievement. He joined the Army National Guard immediately after graduation and served for eight years. Following his military service, Ernest began his career at the Mobile Public Library. He went on to build a remarkable 35-year career in public service, retiring as Chief of the Alabama State Department of Revenue. He was known throughout the department as a mentor-always generous with his knowledge and guidance.

Ernest found his greatest joy in loving his wife, Debra. Their enduring bond was a true partnership built on mutual respect, deep affection, and unwavering support. He was also deeply proud of his daughter, Jennifer, and never missed an opportunity to share in her achievements and celebrate her successes.

In addition to his devotion to family, Ernest held a lifelong love for his country and was an enthusiastic supporter of the University of Alabama football team. He is preceded in death by his son, Steven Broadhead.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Debra Broadhead; his sister, Carrie Fagan; his daughter, Jennifer Lutes (Joe); and his nephew, Anthony Broadhead (Lisa). Those who knew Ernest will remember him not only for his intelligence but also for his spirited approach to life's challenges. He was quick-witted, always ready for a thoughtful conversation, and a master storyteller.

As we say goodbye to Ernest J. Broadhead, we celebrate a life filled with love, integrity, and lasting accomplishments. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will continue to inspire and guide us.
