Ernest Carey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Feb. 4, 2026.
Ernest L. Carey was born on May 17, 1961 in Middletown CT and grew up in Hartford. He spent the last 30 years in Tampa, Florida, and passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026.

Ernest was a hardworking and versatile man who took pride in his craft. Ernest mastered many roles throughout his life including working at Tampa airport and also working many jobs like: bartender, machinist, and ultimately a chef at the Yacht Club, roles he carried out with pride and dedication. More than anything, he cherished time spent with the people he loved. He found joy in relaxing at the Federal Bar, sharing laughs during family outings, and bringing everyone together for cookouts, where good food, good company, and lasting memories were always at the center.

Ernest L. Carey was preceded in death by his father, Thomas W. Carey; Nancy Wiliams, whom he considered his second mother in Tampa; his brothers, Christopher Carey, Arthur Pryor, and Ellis Pryor; his sister, Lena Carey; and his nephew, Tarik Carey.

Ernest is survived by his loving mother, Mabel Carey; his brother, Joseph Carey; his sister, Wilhemina Carey; Sister in Laws Sherell Carey & Marilyn Carey. In addition to his very close Hartford friends; Tony Ford, Wanda Ramos, and Cardelia Davis; as well as Victor DiMaio of Tampa, Florida and a host of other nieces, nephews, friends and family members.

Ernest will be remembered for his loyalty to his family, dedication to work, and the happiness he brought to many lives.

Services for Ernest will be private.
