Ernest Hingle Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 15, 2025.
Ernest "Red" Hingle Sr., a lifelong resident of New Orleans, Louisiana peacefully transitioned his life on earth to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, July 11, 2025 at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felton Hingle Jr and Dolores Hubbard Hingle; and his brothers Ray, Roy and Felton Hingle III.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Brenda Ward Hingle; his daughters, Terri Hingle Simms (Derrick), Kimberly Hingle Williams (Eddie), Cathy Ann Lewis, and son, Ernest Hingle Jr. (Lana), his grandchildren, Kenny Folines, Eddie Williams (Qiana), Miquel Jack, Micah Stewart, Mitchell Stewart, Gabriel Hingle, Harmony Hingle and Jamara Coleman; and 7 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers Anthony (Diane), Bernard (Brigett), and Nathan Hingle and sister, Shirley Hingle Daliet; 3 aunts and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ernest attended George Washington Carver and received his high school diploma from the New Orleans Job Corps Center. It was there he learned many trades. In 1969 Ernest enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Ernest was a Jack of all trades; there was nothing he could not do. He was a carpenter, plumber, and an electrician. Although he worked for many companies, what he loved most was being his own boss. Ernest was a legend in the community of the black masking Indians. He assisted in creating many Indian costumes. He was affiliated with the Yellow Pocahontas and Black Feather Indian Tribes. Some of his work was exhibited in art galleries and magazines. Ernest's life was a testament to his devotion for the New Orleans culture. His 3-D design style will continue to live on in the other black masking Indians he shared his knowledge with for over 50 years.
Relatives and friends of the family are all invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, July 19, 2025, 10:00AM, at the Apostolic Outreach Center, 8358 Lake Forest Blvd, New Orleans, La 70126. Visitation will begin at 9:00AM followed by the service at 10:00AM. Internment Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Ave., New Orleans, La. 70122.
