BARRE – Ernest E. Lanpher, 80, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at his home. Born on February 18, 1945, in Burlington, VT, he was the son of Arthur and Ruth Lanpher. He attended schools in Rochester and graduated in 1964.
In June 1964, he entered the Navy and served for 4 years. In 1970, he joined the Vermont National Guard and retired in 2004, with 34 years of service. On December 20, 1968, he married Beulah (Grout) in Barre, and they made their home there. He worked in the stone shed for 30+ years, drove cars for Poulin Auto, and delivered parts for O'Reilly's.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beulah, his daughters Katharine Tessier of Barre, and Tammy Hall (Jeff) of Walden, his grandchildren Brandon (Chelsea), Brittany Tessier, Kristopher, Nathan, and Aryn Hall, and his great-grandsons Treyton and Zyris.
In addition to his parents, Ernie is predeceased by his brothers and spouses, Everett (Sally), Robert (Beulah), and his sisters and spouses Lena (Earl) and Louise (Ronnie).
He was a lifelong member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and a 40+ year member of the American Legion.
Special thanks to Home Health Hospice for taking such good care of Ernie during his illness, especially Amanda (Social Worker) and the other nurses he had.
