Reflection on Ernie
When I think of Ernie, I envision a kind, quiet, and humble man who adored his wife. His gentle spirit and unwavering dedication to those around him left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Ernie led myself and several others on various mission trips to the Middle East. Our first destination was Egypt, followed by Israel. Interestingly, despite being born in Egypt, Ernie often mentioned that he didn´t remember the language. However, he was invaluable in guiding us on how to dress and behave in a culture that is vastly different from our own. His insights helped us navigate the nuances that could easily offend the local people.
Our subsequent trips took us to Jordan and again to Israel. In Jordan, we encountered individuals who would become lifelong friends. Ernie shared an important cultural insight: if you compliment someone on something they own, they might feel compelled to give it to you. This proved to be true on several occasions!
Ernie, despite his gentle demeanor, was a master barterer. I was always amazed watching him negotiate for items he was purchasing for Marilyn. His skill in bartering not only secured great deals but also showcased his ability to connect with others.
One of Ernie´s remarkable talents was his capacity to engage with Muslims respectfully. In a region where it is illegal to proselytize or convert to Christianity, he managed to converse without condemnation. His approach fostered understanding and respect, bridging gaps between cultures.
I am certain that all of heaven is celebrating Ernie´s homecoming! While we mourn our loss, we recognize that it is his gain. Well done, Ernie! Your legacy of kindness, humility, and respect will forever inspire us.

Ernie and Marilyn are the most honest, kind, compassionate people I am very thankful to have the privilege of knowing and traveling to the Middle East with. Ernie will truly be greatly missed. May the Lord comfort Marilyn, Matt, Ruth and all the grandchildren.

I remember Ernie from his work in affordable housing, but most of all, when he helped put together a trip to Egypt and Israel. His eyes were toward eternity and full of compassion. He loved what he did and loved to see things be made better.
My heart goes out to Marilyn, Matt, and Ruth. I agree with Fawn Parish's statement that he is probably hearing Jesus say, "Well done." I can't wait for the reunion there.

Ernie embraced vision that encompassed eternity. He was bold, daring, a man of action. He came to speak to our international students about entrepreneurship and thriving. The students loved him.
Joey and I met in his home many significant international leaders, that left a mark on me.
I was always so proud he was my brother.
Sending love to his dear wife Marilyn and Matt and Ruth and all who loved him.
Ernie is even now hearing "Well done good and faithful servant enter into the joy of your Lloyd."
