Ernest A. Recob

Ernest A. Recob, affectionately known as Ernie, was born on July 29, 1943, in Wichita, Kansas. He departed this life on September 12, 2024, leaving behind a legacy marked by both professional achievements and heartfelt relationships.

Ernie's early years were spent in vigorously pursuing his passion for baseball. He attended Southeast High School in Wichita and after graduating, went to Kansas State University, where he made significant strides as an athlete. A three-year starter as an outfielder for the Wildcats from 1963 to 1966, Ernie etched his name in the annals of the university’s sports history. He became K-State's first-ever two-time first team All-Conference selection, being named to the All-Big Eight Conference first team in both 1963 and 1966. His remarkable talents are highlighted by his impressive .353 career batting average, ranking him eighth in Kansas State's history, and leading the team in stolen bases during his junior and senior years with 12 and 11 successful attempts. He paced the team his senior season in at-bats (116), hits (45) and runs (21). He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 56th round in 1966, where he played outfield as an ambidextrous player.

After his illustrious baseball career, Ernie transitioned into the business world, where he showcased his talents in various roles. He initially worked at the Coleman Company as a sales manager, then moved to York International as a pricing specialist. Ultimately, Ernie found his niche as a pricing manager at Style Crest, a position he held until his retirement in 2013.

Ernie was remembered not only for his professional endeavors but also for his endearing personality. Described as confident and determined, he was a man of his word whose direct manner was complemented by exceptional wit and sharp intellect, making conversations with him rich in humor and insight. He had a heart of gold, always ready to lend a hand to those in need. His love for his wife, Priscilla Tanner Brown, was profound and evident in his kind words, thoughtful gifts, and spontaneous acts of compassion.

Outside of work, Ernie embraced life with enthusiasm. A self-proclaimed foodie at heart, he had a particular fondness for pizza and loved the unique Back Burner Chili from Charley Brown’s on everything. He also enjoyed watching "The Bold and the Beautiful" at 12:30 PM with Priss, often engaging in spirited discussions about the characters and their complicated storylines. His hobbies included playing golf, going to the movies, and cherishing quiet moments spent with his beloved pet cats—Coco, Ginai, and Mama Cat.

Ernie is survived by his devoted wife, Priss Brown; brother Gary Recob; and niece Junilda Farner. He is also survived by his three children, as well as his step-son Scott Brown and wife Collett Mitchel, and Scott's children Nathan Brown and wife Christine and Priya Brown, step-daughter Tiffany Collins and husband Wade Collins, and Tiffany's children JD Wilson II and wife Katraina and Nicholas Wilson and wife Jamie, and step-daughter Brandi Palmer, and her children, Victoria Palmer and Olivia Palmer. Additionally, he is survived by step-great-grandchildren Jimmie Wilson II, Sterling Wilson, and Hannah Wilson. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Recob Jr.; mother, Marietta Recob; and sister, Dora Cutshaw.

A private family service has been held. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Beauties & Beasts, 136 S. Pattie, Wichita, KS 67211.

Ernest A. Recob will be fondly remembered for his warmth, generosity, and spirited approach to life, impacting the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
