Ernest (Skip) "Skip" Hemschot, III III

Skip Hemschot, age 70, raised in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at his home in Ocala, FL.

Born on April 23, 1955, in Queens, NY, Skip was the son of Ernest and Lynne Hemschot, the first of four children.

Skip began his career in law enforcement as a County Investigator with the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office. After obtaining his Juris Doctorate from Rutgers University Law School, he held positions as an Assistant Prosecutor in Warren and Passaic Counties, focusing on Major Crimes and Government Corruption. In addition, Skip served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Sussex County Community College, teaching Criminal Law within the Criminal Justice Program. After leaving the Prosecutor's office, Skip went on to focus his attention on his private practice, specializing in Construction Law, Real Estate, Debt Collection, Consumer Fraud, and Estate Planning.

In addition to his law practice, Skip was an avid lover of history, participating in the Sussex County Historical Society during his years living in Newton, NJ, and was actively engaged in mental health rights, once serving as Chair of the Sussex County Mental Health Board Association.

Outside of work, Skip loved to travel, taking cruises to all parts of the world, listening to all genres of music, attending music concerts whenever possible, spending time in his most beloved place, The Red Lion Inn in Vermont, and dabbling in various real estate projects.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, 340 Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ 07423, on Saturday, July 12th, at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, 770 Darlington Ave, Mahwah, NJ 07430.

He is survived by his family, sisters Marielle Delucca (John) , Monica Iannacone (Richard), his brother Christopher Hemschot (Laura), and his beloved nieces Sophia and Hannah Hemschot, as well as a wealth of cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lynne Hemschot (nee Mader).
