Ernest Sweat Obituary

He was born September 13, 1932 in Ware County to the late Oran Sweat and Pearl Wainright Sweat Cox. Ernest lived his entire life in Ware County as a farmer, and he served in the United States Army. He was formerly employed by CSX Railroad as a carman for 38 years, and long-time member of Kettle Creek Church where he sang in the choir almost up until his death. Among his many passions, if there ever was any fishing or dancing to do, Ernest was the one to do it.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel Sweat; step-daughter, Janet Crawford; and siblings, Wilbur Sweat, Wallace Sweat, and Jeanette Roegner.
Survivors include his wife, Nan Cox Sweat of Sweat Farm; daughter, Tina M. Lewis (Todd) of Washington, GA; son, Ernest H. "Ernie" Sweat, Jr. of Waycross; step-children, Megan Crowley (Patrick) of Acworth, GA and Mark Cox of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Amber L. Crawford, Camille McAvoy (Charlie), and Will Lewis; great grandchildren, Lane and Hayes McAvoy; "chosen daughter", Teresa Gibbons (Patrick); "chosen grandchildren", Jessie Zeazer (Zack), and Walker Blount (Grace); "chosen great grandchild", Jackson Zeazer; special cousin, Harry Blount; nieces, Tanya Mixon and Tracey Peeples; and nephew, Randy Sweat.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (September 27, 2025) at Kettle Creek Church. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at Music Funeral Home.
