Ernest Henry "Ernie; Butch" Vieth Jr.

Ernest "Ernie" "Butch" Henry Vieth, Jr., 78, passed away November 15, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born on December 29, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa, to Ernest Sr. and Blanche (Murrey) Vieth.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.)

Ernie was an avid bowler. He not only loved bowling, but he also enjoyed watching his son bowl during his bowling league days. He enjoyed live music as well. Every Tuesday he could be found at Prairie Meadows listening to a band.

He was very generous and would donate money to Iowa Public Television and to the Animal Rescue League. When he wasn't donating to the Animal Rescue League, he would often foster cats to help them out.

Family was very important to Ernie, and he liked going out to dinner with his children and grandchildren. They would usually end the night going back to the house, playing card games or board games.

Ernie is survived by his children, David Vieth and Tracy Nemitz; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Nemitz and Benjamin Nemitz. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Sr. and Blanche Vieth; and brother, John Vieth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League.
