Ernesto "Chino" Castano, a beloved member of the Tucson community, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 6, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on August 21, 1949, in Tucson, AZ, Chino was a proud native who dedicated 39 years of his life to serving with distinction at the Tucson Railroad Union Pacific and Southern Pacific.

Chino's educational journey began at Tucson High School, from which he graduated in the class of 1969. He embodied a vibrant and loving spirit, bringing joy not just to his family but also to friends and acquaintances alike through his warm personality and zest for life.

He was a devoted partner to Margaret Valdez, and cherished his role as a father to his children: daughter Victoria B. Castano (Mark), sons Ernesto G. Castano Jr. and Ramon Ayala. His siblings, sister Adelina Gomez and her husband Raul, and brother Carlos Castano, along with numerous nieces and nephews, also survive him, carrying forward the memories of his unwavering love and laughter.

Chino was preceded in death by his mother, Alicia M. Castano, brothers, Rudy, Oscar, Joe and Anthony Castano (Linda).

Chino had a variety of hobbies that enriched his life, including hunting, visiting with family and friends, and traveling to Las Vegas. One of his fondest pastimes was making soups, a skill he relished sharing with those he loved.

A Mass celebrating Chino’s life will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Tucson, AZ, on November 24, 2025, with services starting at 10:30 AM. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest at Holy Hope Cemetery at 12:00 PM, where family and friends are invited to honor his memory and bid farewell.

Chino will be remembered not only for his service and dedication in his career but also for the love he shared with those around him. His legacy of kindness, vibrancy, and familial devotion will live on in the hearts of his loved ones forever.
