In memory of
Jamie Rodems
December 30, 2017
I first met Ernie in 1970 when I was a pledge at The Pi Chapter of Psi Upsilon at Syracuse University. The loud voice, the ready smile and the stories. That was Ernest B Turner the 3rd and more. I was saddened to hear of his passing and was sorry to miss his calling hours. My wife and I bought bikes from Ernie as did my son. I just gave my son the canoe I bought from Ernie in 1978. It was silver for about 48 hours before I painted it marsh brown. Ernie thought I was crazy. For several years I would stop at Brewster's at Sandy Pond when traveling on waterfowl hunting trips. Ernie was always Ernie. Happy to see you and always getting in some good natured ribbing. Unfortunately life has a way of interfering with friendships and like many of us we lost track of each other. Not that this detracts in any way from the fact that Ernie was an interesting guy and a good person. God bless and keep you Brother Turner, ITB, Jamie Rodems, Pi 73

Ben and Amy- We won't be attending Ernie's services tomorrow due to the weather, but I wanted to tell you both how much of a friend your father was to me when my husband died suddenly in 2001. His kindness was overwhelming and I'll never forget him for it. We are all blessed simply by knowing him.
Take comfort in your memories

My heart is breaking knowing now that I'll never get to see your smiling face or hear that booming cheerful voice again. I can't believe it was your time to go already. I am so thankful for the time I got with you Ernie, the last 6 years have been an honor getting to know you. Clearly you were a person unlike most with a personality and charisma larger than life. I will always remember you my friend. I love you, thank you for everything.

How we will miss Ernie and his booming voice at the Pond. Growing up with Ernie and the Turner/Whitney clan was a constant adventure, as he was so full of life and energy. It is hard to believe he is gone, but his joie de vivre will always remain with us. My heartfelt condolences to Ben, Amy, Rich, and Tom...Nancy McCellan

Ernie is a truly great person. We have had many talks throughout the years that have meant so much. A true friend. Wished he had taken the opportunity to spend time in Florida as he would have liked. He is a new man now. Soaring through the universe making sure all the other angels hear him. Peace my friend!

Our life together did not end up as either of us had planned. But Ernie gave me a gift that I cherish and that no one else could have given me. Our children, Amy and Ben, and I'll always be grateful to him for that.

Ernie was always there when help was needed. And boy did I need help with this one living next door to him. He was always the first one to show up and the last one to leave. How we all loved Ernie!

So very saddened to learn that a terrific neighbor, friend and larger than life personality will no longer be with us. Ernie Turner was unique in that his warmth and friendship radiated out to everyone who met him. And I think every resident of Sandy Pond has met him at one time or another. Where every we went and mentioned that we had a cottage at Sandy Pond the first thing said was "Hey, do you know Ernie"? That was the ticket to endless conversations in restaurants, marinas, or wherever. As saddened as we are at this moment in time I firmly believe that those conversations will continue for a very long time not only at Sandy Pond but in Syracsue, Oswego and Liverpool where Ernie also left his mark and legacy.
