Ersel Leonard Kilburn Jr.

Ersel Kilburn, affectionately known as Skip, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born and raised in Kailua, Hawai'i, Skip graduated from Kailua High School, Class of 1959, before earning a degree in Criminal Justice from Chaminade University. He dedicated nearly three decades of service to the Honolulu Police Department, where he retired as Assistant Chief.

Following his retirement from HPD, Skip continued working at Ala Moana Center, where he later retired as Assistant General Manager.

Skip embraced life fully and was a true sportsman who enjoyed golfing, fishing, doing the daily crossword puzzle, and spending time with his family. He and his beloved wife, Linda, shared a love of travel and explored more than 55 countries together. He was an avid Yankees fan and a proud Rotarian for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Linda Kilburn; his son, Keith (Maile) Kilburn; his daughter, Kristin Kilburn; and his grandchildren, Brianne, Ian, and Gavin. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, humor, and love that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 5, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Mid-Pacific Country Club in Kailua.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ersel Kilburn to the Hawaiian Humane Society.
