Esperanza Martinez, or “Hope” as she would tell you was born on January 10th, 1951, in Los Barrancos de Guadalupe, Ojinaga, in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. She passed away peacefully on the night of April 29th, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas.

She endured a prolonged period of declining health with quiet strength and resilience. Her precedence in death is followed by her mother Florencia Rodriguez, her sisters Cruz Olivas and Rosario Marquez, and her son Jorge Martinez.

Hope resided in Elkhart, Kansas with her husband Dolores Martinez Sr. in which they had five healthy children. The family lived together during 1975-1999, after a divorce Hope finally decided to live her life on her ranch in Hobbs, New Mexico.

She was most proud of her greatest achievement—purchasing her own piece of land. An area where families of all places could come together and enjoy most of their time in heartfelt moments. Even when you stayed the night.

Hope experienced profound joy whenever she had the opportunity to visit all her grandchildren. The ones nearby she encased them with gifts or items that were always thoughtful from her adventures at “La Pulga” or yard sales.

It was her strong compassion and tenacity that she gained by showing others how to be resilient, strong-minded, and selfless as life became tough. She did this by treasuring her own kids that she raised independently, each to their own now raising families. This was part of

her dream where she nurtured many plants and animals while showing her grandchildren the beauty of life.

Her ingenuity came from adapting to what materials she had around, or even a simple phone call from a family or a friend to help in need. Her admiration for life was drawn from the humble beginnings she started with and by not letting anything get in her way.

The memories she shared with all her grandchildren in which they concluded that she was an amazing cook, especially her beans and green chile; giving them gifts like a moveable barbie doll or toy cars; spending quality time; trips to the store or to get ice cream; giving big squeezes and even when she held us as a baby during our first moments in life.

Hope admired and cherished her time during the holidays, especially Christmas with her grandkids, as the families were together for her, it is for them to continue these traditions of spending time together, as she would have wanted. Hope is survived by her sons Lolo, Omero, and Jaime, daughter Jessica, her sisters Juana and Margarita, her brother Socorro, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

The family at this time would like to extend their deepest gratitude to those who were compassionate enough to be with Hope during her final moments. Her personal companions like her sisters, and brother, relatives from near and afar, neighbors, hospice care, and life-long friends who supported in the most prominent times with kindness and sincerity.

The viewing is scheduled for May 21st, 2025, from 10 A.M. - 8 P.M. at Griffin’s Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Prairie Haven Memorial Park on May 22nd, 2025. In lieu of flowers Hope loved the colors yellow and purple, donations to the funeral services are greatly

appreciated and welcomed. Hope’s grandest enjoyment in life was receiving flowers or planting them with those she loved.
