Dr Esperanza Rowell of
Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on July 19, 1935, in the Philippines, Esperanza dedicated her life to caring for others. A highly respected anesthesiologist since 1969, she combined skill with compassion throughout her career but found greater joy in fulfilling her lifelong calling to help the poor and the underserved in medical missions from Central America to the Philippines. Esperanza was a force of nature known for her intellect, humor, and boundless energy. She believed in the possibilities, told the best stories, and loved her family fiercely. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, William Rowell, her parents Jose and Maria Ravalo, brothers Armando, Rufino and sister Pita. She is survived by her children: Maria (Darrel) Silvey, Theresa (Karl) Reddick, James Robert (Bob) Rowell II (Peggie), and Diana (Sean) Meadows; Grandchildren Natalie Duke, Valerie Duke (Jonathan Shetter), Jonathan (Annemarie LeCompte) Turl, Rachel (Patrick) Lee, Samantha (Casey) Wallen, Joseph Reddick, Loukas Meadows, Theou Meadows; and great-grandchildren Sofia Herrera-Duke, Margot Shetter, Gabriella Turl Gravitt and William Turl. Esperanza's life and unshakable faith will be remembered by everyone blessed to have known her. She lived with purpose and her spirit will live on in those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 10:00a.m.-11:00a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church at 930 Ashland Terrace,
Chattanooga, Tennessee. A service will follow at 11:00a.m. Interment will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
