Obituary of Essat Ali
Essat Ali, of
Rochester, NY, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026. He was surrounded by his family in his home. He was 79 years old.
Essat was born in Cyprus on April 4, 1946. His family moved to England in 1959. After completing school, he served in the Parachute Regiment of the British Army. Essat immigrated from England to the United States in 1974. He owned and operated his full[1]service auto repair business, Ali's Service Center, for 39 years. After retirement, he became a tinsmith working as a historical interpreter at the Genesee Country Village. He was known for his love and devotion to his family, sense of humor, genuine kindness, loveof gardening, and, of course, his uncanny ability to fix whatever was broken.
Essat could often diagnose a car's trouble just by listening and loved the sound of an engine that ran smoothly. His strong work ethic, honesty and determination created a business and lasting friendships with customers as he shared a laugh, cup of coffee or his lunch. Customers often came in to just see him and catch up on the day's events. He genuinely loved life and people.
Gardening was one of his favorite pastimes. He saw beauty in nurturing a plant from seed to its full bloom. His greatest joy was undoubtedly his family. He always spoke of his children and grandchildren with such pride and love. He grew everything-his family, business and all his gardens, with his loving wife of 49 years by his side.
He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, and their four children: Nadiya (Ali) Timperman (Matthew), Omar (Lindsay) Ali, Leyla (Ali) Beers (Michael), Esat Kenan Ali, as well as nine grandchildren.
A family burial was held, and a celebration of life will follow later in March. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation. The Ali family wishes to thank the Foundation and Friends of Strong for their support, care and dedication to research and treatment.
