Estella Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harris Funeral Home on Dec. 18, 2025.
Estella Ruth Brown was born to the late Louis Valentine, Sr. and Ida (Robinson) Valentine. She was married to the late Semerian Brown, Sr. From this union, they were blessed with two sons, Semerian and Michael who preceded her in death. Her brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. They were Mildred, Linwood, Bertha, Louis, Venice Marie, Joseph, Sylvester, Harry, Harold, Eddie, and Viola.

Estella was affectionately known as Stell, Stella, Mom Brown, and Mom.

She was educated in the public school system in the State of Pennsylvania: Langhorne Elementary School, a one-room schoolhouse in Langhorne, Bucks County, PA, and in the City of Philadelphia, PA, she attended Barry Elementary School, Shoemaker Junior High School, and, Overbrook Senior High School where she graduated in 1947.

Estella lived in the summer with relatives on Richardson Avenue in Langhorne, PA. She worked during the summer months at Woods School. After graduating from Overbrook, she moved to Bristol, PA, where she met and married Semerian Brown. They lived with his parents, Reverend Semerian Brown, Sr. and Docia Brown until they moved to Reading, PA. They lived on Mulberry Street, Buttonwood Street, and Mifflin Street until the flood of 1972, when they moved to 1123 N. 5th Street.

During her life in Reading, PA, she worked at the Western Electric Company, Reading Hospital as a nurse's aid, Wilson's Safety Equipment worker, and as a caregiver/domestic to Mrs. Bisbind (1960-2005).

Estella was a member of St. Matthew African Methodist Episcopal Church of Philadelphia, PA, along with her parents and siblings. She later became a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Reading, PA, where she was a Stewardess and served wherever needed. Her volunteer service included Wednesday mid-day service and preparing meals for attendees during that time.

She loved bowling and won several trophies from tournaments. Her highest game was 268. She talked about making 300 one day.

Stella loved life and was full of life. Wherever she went, her smile filled the room. She loved bowling with her husband and sons. Left to celebrate her loving memory are her daughters-in-law, Cheryl, Deborah, and Mary; grandchildren, Robert, Tracie, Michael, and Ashley; great-grands; and a host of family, friends, and neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to a special GoFundMe account that has been established in loving memory of Estella Ruth Brown.

Estella's family is preparing a meaningful Welcome Home Celebration to honor her life, legacy, and the love she shared with so many. Your support-whether through a donation or by sharing the link-will help the family during this sacred time of remembrance.

To the family of Ms. Stella, (that is what I always called her). She and my mom were good friends, she was family to me. I loved her laugh! I am so glad I had the time to be around her before she moved away. Ms. Stella made a quilt for my mom and she came to see her every day before she passed away. Ms. Stella was a beautiful, wonderful person. I missed her when she moved and I will miss her passing away. She gave everyone a hug, smile and a laugh. Rest in peace Mr. Stella. Love Sister
