Estelle June Hennessey, age 98, departed this life on December 10, 2025, at her home in Southbury, CT. In the weeks leading up to her passing, she was surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. She was the beloved wife of deceased Joseph S. Hennessey, Sr. June, as she was known by her family and friends, was born in Woodbridge, CT, to Estelle Blake and Benjamin Harrison Root on June 14, 1927. June graduated from Wilber Cross High school and, for over 40 years, she worked in sales. She and Joe lived a full beautiful life together, traveling around the world and spending many years vacationing in Maine at the cottage that Joe and his family built in the late 1950s. In addition, June was an avid bowler and she and Joe were in many leagues, winning awards and trophies. When she was young, she loved ice skating, doing her figure eights, water skiing, swimming and diving. After raising their children in Beacon Falls, CT, they spent winters in Sarasota, FL, eventually moving to Sarasota full-time in the late 1990s. June is survived by her daughter, Doreen Elnitsky of Southbury, CT, her son, Darrin Hennessey of Watertown, CT, her granddaughter, Caitlin Elnitsky and her wife, Laura McDonough of Braintree, MA, Christopher Elnitsky of Watertown, CT, Erik Martin and Brett Martin of Naugatuck, CT, Tyler Martin of Waterbury, CT, Justin, Randy (Sherry), and Joseph Hennessey of Florida, her great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, and Randell Hennessey of Florida, and Mae Robin Martin of Naugatuck, her sisters, Mary White of Bethany, CT, and Karen Root of Colorado, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, of 72 years, her sisters, Edna Fleming, Marion Senderoff, Joyce Blewette, Audry Waskewicz, and Nancy Rich, her brothers, David, Earle, Thomas, and Benjamin Root, her daughter, Robin Martin McKenna, her son, Joseph S. Hennessey Jr., her daughter-in-law, Laurie Hennessey and her son-in-law, Theodore Smith.
Services will be held on Monday, December 29th, from 2-5pm at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury, CT.
