Esther Vonice Baker, lovingly known as "Vonice" to her friends and "Nana" to her family, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, at the age of 94. A cherished matriarch and a steadfast woman of faith, she leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and church.
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Vonice moved to Texas early in life, where she would plant deep roots and spend her years surrounded by those she loved. A devoted Baptist, her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through joys and challenges with grace and resilience.
Vonice shared 54 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Brandon C. Baker. Together, they built a strong and loving family. She was more than just a mother and wife-she was a nurturer to many. Her gentle, caring spirit touched the lives of countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who considered her a motherly figure.
Family was everything to Vonice. She took immense pride in caring for others, always offering a warm home, a listening ear, and a heart full of love. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will continue to inspire kindness, strength, and faith in those she leaves behind.
Though she faced many challenges in life, Vonice never wavered in her devotion to God or her family. Her legacy is one of compassion, endurance, and deep love-a true testament to a life well lived.
She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her, and her warmth and kindness will live on in the hearts of many.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Dennis and Ronnie Baker (Tressa) ; her grandchildren, Kevin Baker, Kirk Dennis, Kiya Schneider (Neil), Tammy Guffey, Kelly Kinnear (Eric), Otis Guffey (Kelly), Andrea Hemphill (Chris); her great-grandchildren, Macie (Drew), Brandon, Jonah (Carina), Jordan, Juliana, Tori (Steven),Tamyra, Sid (Mo), Nathan, Zaden, Hudson, Madison, Ella, Caitlin, Daisy, Otis Jr, Owen, Oliver; and one great-great-grandchild, Mia Kate.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barney "Papaw" and Annie "Mamaw" Dillard; her siblings, Caroline, Clara Lou, Donald, Dorothy "Dot," and Hubert; her beloved husband of 54 years, Brandon C. Baker; and her son, O'Restes "Rusty" Baker.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 17th at South park Funeral Home located at 1310 N. Main St Pearland, TX. Visitation will begin at 12:30 and service will begin at 2:00pm. Shadycrest Baptist Church will be providing Refreshments immediately following the service.
