Esther Barrett Obituary

Mother Esther Elizabeth Barrett (Johnson) of Oxford, PA, entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on February 27, 1939, in Chester County to the late Ella Mae Carter and Lawrence Johnson Sr., she was educated in the Kennett Square School District and lived a life marked by holiness, prayer, strength, and love.

In April of her early adulthood, she was united in holy matrimony to Elder William Barrett Sr., a blessed union that continued until his passing. Together they raised their family and worked faithfully in the church.

Mother Barrett was baptized in Jesus' Name, filled with the Holy Ghost, and lived firmly according to the Apostolic doctrine. She served faithfully at Christ Temple under Elder Archibald, Elder Carl Butcher, and District Elder Allen Tate. She later continued her work in the ministry at Apostolic Fellowship, the church founded by her husband, where she supported the church from its beginning and organized many of the church's special programs, including Christmas, Easter, Children's Day, and Grandparents Day.

A devoted prayer warrior, she was faithful to Noon Day Prayer and was known for her powerful and sincere intercession. She loved singing songs that testified to what God brought her through - especially "Through It All," "Standing Somewhere," and "One Day at a Time."

A woman of tremendous strength, Mother Barrett survived breast cancer in 1993 and lung cancer in the early 2000s. After treatment, God allowed her hair to grow back long and beautiful, and she praised God the first time the wind blew through it again.

At home, she enjoyed watching TV Land, especially one of her favorite shows, Gilligan's Island. Her warmth, humor, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.

Mother Barrett was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elder William Barrett Sr.; and all of her siblings:
Edith Johnson (Edith Gray), William "Billy" Johnson, Lawrence "June Jack" Johnson Jr., Charlie Johnson, Raymond Johnson, Marie Lyons, and Estella "Nicole" Davis.

Leaves to Cherish Her Memory Her loving children: Emanuel Wilson, Ella Mae Peterson, Ernest Thompson Peterson, Kathryn "Missy" Bowman, Richard Barrett, Vanessa Barrett, Brenda Barrett-Davis, and William W. Barrett Jr.; her great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family, church family, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Mother Esther Elizabeth Barrett lived faithfully, loved deeply, and prayed fervently. Her legacy will continue for generations.
