Esther Williams Mise, age 76, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023. She was born in South Boston, VA on December 2, 1946 to Doris Frazier and Lester Williams. She was a much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Edward Lee Mise; their daughter Kirsten Harper (Scott) and granddaughter Reagan Harper. She is also survived by her sister Martha Bradshaw (Leroy) and brother Bill Williams.
Esther was a math teacher for Danville Public Schools and Danville Community College for 39 years. She was the valedictorian of her class at Blue Stone High School in 1965. She graduated with honors from Longwood University and obtained a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Virginia. She had an endless amount of energy when it came to her hobbies. She enjoyed reading, playing golf, going to the beach, playing bridge, shopping, and walking in marathons.
She was a devout Christian who was full of dignity and grace. She was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but wonderful memories.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to her loyal friend, Jan Sutherland, who was by her side throughout her illness. They would also like to acknowledge the wonderful care given by her friend Becky Doss, the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living, and Laura Swift with Hospice.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Norris Funeral Home on Franklin Turnpike. Memorial services will be Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Norris with the officiating minister Ryan Riley. At other times the family will be at the family residence.
