Born on August 8, 2002, in Boston, Ethan Bell was the beloved son of Lisette and Erick Lara. He attended Winthrop Elementary School and Ipswich Middle/High School.
Ethan Bell moved to the beat of his own drum. He had an avid love of gaming, music, philosophy, and comedy. What shined through most was the way he brought people together through his unique interests and his careful attention to the vibe.
As his mother Lisette lovingly observes: "He was so eager to share his passions. He would find his own thing: music, games, or movies that he wanted to show you. An image that sticks with me is him, little, sitting in a room full of adults holding his own on a video game. He could do that for hours."
His sister Genesis has a similar recollection: "He would take the time to set up a space that would immerse you. He would choose a video game, and it would be muted so he could play his songs over it. I remember seeing the tape used to put up the strings of lighting for the room; it gave a DIY feel."
Online, he was known as Racerbam. His skills in Mortal Kombat and Super Smash Bros. were unrivaled -- particularly his Kung Lao and Jigglypuff, which were equally as feared as they were admired. Other favorite games of his included Call of Duty, Rainbow Six Siege, and Need for Speed. He loved to play chess, even going so far as to bring a chess set on his walks, as well as a speaker to share his music.
Ethan Bell gave deep consideration to matters of life, death, and identity. He spent countless hours in pursuit of answering the most difficult questions that tug at us all. He studied philosophy and psychology, with a special interest in the subconscious mind and the goal of understanding his unique cognitions, dreams, and desires.
He channeled his emotions into poetry and raps. His writings reflected a penchant for slick rhymes and deep cuts. He enjoyed performing his pieces for his friends and family, bringing life to paper with his distinct flow. He used journaling as an outlet, demonstrating the power of fighting one's demons through self-reflection and writing.
Ethan Bell's sense of humor was one of a kind -- combining the absurd with the dark, wrapped up in goofy references that pulled from the media he loved and the media loved by those around him. He had a special way of acknowledging his friends and family by remembering their interests, their brand of humor, and finding the perfect meme to send.
"So appreciate the people who made you think twice" - Ethan Bell
