Ethel Ray Brown, 78, of Valdosta, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at her home. She was born on September 24, 1932 in Naylor, a daughter of the late Wesley and Dessie Jones Ray. She grew up in Naylor, graduated from Lowndes County, and married Edwin E. "Chunky" Brown. During Mr. Brown's career with the United States Air Force she moved throughout the world with him to his duty stations. Following his retirement the couple returned to the area and made their home in Valdosta. Mrs. Brown a good Christian woman, was a member of Bemiss Road Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother, and a kind, sweet lady who enjoyed reading and knitting. She is survived by four sons, Edwin M. Brown, Gregory E. Brown and wife Patricia I., Wesley Dean Brown and wife Michelle, and Terry Brown, all of Valdosta; six grandchildren, Brandi Ann Short and husband James, and Edwin Eugene Brown, all of Amarillo, TX, Patrick Brown, Rebecca Brown, Autumn Kulka and Joseph Kulka, all of Valdosta; one great-grandson, James Short of Amarillo, TX; one sister, Dorothy Willis and husband Joel of Valdosta; one brother, W.C. "Junior" Ray, Jr. of Valdosta; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a special cousin, Gloria and husband Lloyd Luke of Valdosta. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband and a sister, Janice Tattersall. Funeral Services for Mrs. Brown will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Culpepper and Dr. Danny Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Good Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
