Ethel Joy Dietrich (Nielsen) left this earth on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Joy was born on June 7, 1942 in Utah to George Nielsen and Alta Lucille Nielsen (Conover). Joy grew up in Ferron, Utah, living and working on the family farm with her brothers and sister. Joy learned the value of hard work and family from a young age. On November 18, 1960, Joy married Wendell Elmer Erwin Dietrich.
Joy would move from Utah to live in Texas, Minnesota, and Iowa as Wendell's job took them all over the country's heartland. As Wendell's career kept them moving, Joy's love of family kept them together.
Eventually, Joy and her family would settle in New London, Minnesota. While in New London, Joy would apply her skills for finances to her job at The Big Store and the family business. Joy also loved to spend her time reading, quilting, tending to her garden, spending time with her family, and enjoying the beautiful view of the Little Crow River from her windows or screened porch. Her family will also remember summers spent having lunch on that screened porch overlooking the river.
Joy is survived by her husband, Wendell Dietrich, daughters Wendy (Gregory) Meyer and Trudy (Victor) Johnson, and son Douglas Dietrich. Brothers Don (Peggy) Nielsen and Garth (Christie) Nielsen, and sister Kathy Nielsen. Brother-in-laws Carl Noelting and Steven (Carolyn) Dietrich. Grandchildren: Tiffany (Alan) Bagley, Nathan Meyer, Ashley (Brandon) Presley, Bailey Johnson, Adam Johnson, Evan Johnson, and Andrew Dietrich. Additionally, Joy had eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alta Nielsen; her mother and father-in-law, Arthur and Vivian Dietrich; sister-in-law, Joan Noelting; and brother, Dean Nielsen.
In lieu of a funeral, there will be a small family gathering at the Dietrich house at a later date. Please send cards, flowers, and condolences to Wendell Dietrich at 101 2nd Ave S E, New London, MN 56273.
