Ethel Read Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 12, 2008.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Ethel Helen Read, 88, who passed away Monday, May 12, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Hospital. Reverend Stephen Horn, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Lafayette will conduct the services. Interment will take place at the Masonic Cemetery in Lafayette. Ethel, the daughter of the late Ren' Delhomme, founder of Delhomme Funeral Home, and the former Mary Helen Gerac, was a longtime resident of Lafayette. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lafayette. Ethel was a born-again Christian who loved Jesus and cared for one another, deep within her heart. Prayer was an important part of her life which connected her closer to God. Ethel was creative minded and enjoyed putting collages together as well as writing. She was also a very good cook. Throughout my life my mother always helped with all my endeavors. I thank God from the bottom of my heart for giving me such a precious mother who loved me dearly. Mom would say, 'Jesus is with us'. Survivors include one son, Gary Alan Delhomme Read of Lafayette; one niece, Daphne James; and three nephews, Francis B. Delhomme, Dr. Pierre Robley Dupleix, and Wilbert Woody. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Alfred West Read; parents, Ren' Delhomme and Mary Helen Gerac; two sisters, Lucille Woody, and Delores Dupleix; and Francis Delhomme. The family requests visiting hours be observed on Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Thursday from 9:00 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Duane Delhomme, Dr. Pierre Robley Dupleix, Bill Christian, Dennis Smith, Gerald Robin, and Ron Dubois. Honorary pallbearers will be Wilbert Woody and Francis B. Delhomme. Memorial contributions may be made in the name of Ethel Helen Read to the First Baptist Church, 1100 Lee Avenue, Adult Single Ministry, Lafayette, LA 70501.
