Ethel Garland Greene Sentell, age 96, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at home with family by her side. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Jake & Sarah Garland; stepmother, Zena Garland; and husbands, Fred B. Greene and Richard Sentell; grandson, Brian Buckley; and several sisters and brothers. She was survived by her daughter, Maxine Greene Okoye; 4 grandchildren, Sheila Bedwell of Oregon, Denise Beck of Indiana, Tami Buckley of Maryville, and Marcie Weaver of California; 13 great-grandchildren, including special great-grandson, Caleb Buckley; 16 great-great-grandchildren, including special great-great-grandson, Aiden Santos; sisters and their spouses, Sylvia & Darrell Galde, Hazel Cope; brothers and their spouses, Wiley & Johnnie Garland, Fred & Judy Garland, JC & Frances Garland, Gene & Trula Garland; numerous nieces and nephews; and special great-niece, Jennifer Comiskey. Ethel was born in North Carolina and moved to the Cane community in the Abrams Creek area of Blount County, Tennessee when she was a small child. She spent her childhood in Cades Cove and Townsend. She loved the mountains and loved to visit Cades Cove and reminisce about the Cades Cove community. Ethel was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Alcoa. Special thanks to Blount Memorial Hospice and Hospice sitter Barrett Loope. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Smith Trinity Chapel followed by funeral service at 7:00 PM with Rev. Danny Davis officiating. Family and friends will assemble for interment at 1:00 PM, Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Grandview Cemetery. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
