Columbia, South Carolina - Mrs. Ethel Smith (affectionately known as "Lou Lou" or "Ms. Ethel") was born January 18, 1925, in Cayce, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Hattie Bell Lorick and Toney Muller, who both preceded her in death, and was the second of four daughters. She departed this life on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at her home in Columbia, South Carolina.
Ethel leaves to cherish her loving memory: her son, David Sulton of East Orange, NJ (Nancy); son-in-law, James Pitchford of Fayetteville, NC (Mary, deceased); six granddaughters Vita Robinson of Columbia, SC, Sheila Parham of Columbus, GA, Barbara Howard of Tampa, FL, Michelle McGirt of Fayetteville, NC, Phyllis Sims of Columbus, GA, and Phoebe Pitchford of Houston, TX; seven great-grandchildren Shaquita, LaKisha, Leon, John, Mercedes, Chante' and Omar; eleven great great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Barnwell of Cleveland, Ohio; special daughter Betty Hall of Saluda, SC; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors who will miss her dearly.
A homegoing celebration will be held Wendesday, January 5, 2022 , 12pm, at Second Nazareth Baptist Church, 2300 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia ,SC 29204. A public viewing will be held one hour priot to service.
