Ethel L. Smith

Ethel L. Smith, age 88, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, March 25, 2020 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was born in Three Rivers, Michigan on March 23, 1932, the daughter of Clyde and Marguerite (Miller) Bowersox. Ethel was a member of the Urbandale Baptist Church and enjoyed reading her Bible, putting together jigsaw puzzles, listening to music, watching old movies, and was a die-hard Elvis fan. Ethel married Wayne J. Smith on February 17, 1951; he sadly preceded her in death on July 20, 2017. She is survived by her son, Walter Wayne (Danielle) Smith of Battle Creek; her daughter-in-law, Robin Smith; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her nieces, Candy (David) Gunyan and Bonnie (Frank) Engler; and her dear friend, Julie Evans of Richland. Ethel was also preceded in death by a son, Ricky Smith; her parents; two sisters, Virginia Hoyt and Barbara Barkhuff; and three brothers, George, Walter, and Douglas Myers. At Ethel's request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Battle Creek.
