Etna Louise (Minett) White, age 83 passed away peacefully from this earthly world at her home of 63 years, surrounded by the ones she loved most 5:05 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother (THE BEST, if you ask her grands, and greats), Auntie and Sister. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Etna was born on February 24. 1942 in Indianapolis and would then move to
Morgantown, IN when she was 13. She helped work the family farm and care for her siblings. Etna was a graduate of Trafalgar High School, class of 1960. She was an Officer in the Sunshine Club and sang in the choir.
Etna had an entrepreneur spirit and worked at various jobs over the years including Western Electric, owning her own restaurant, Etna's Place, then working with her daughter, Chrissy, at Mel's Press both in
Morgantown, IN. She would later take up cleaning homes with her daughter, Shelia. Later in life, she retired from the working world to help take care of her youngest grandson, Elias, and become a full-time grandmother to all.
You could always find Etna, laughing, gardening, quilting while listening to an e-book, playing Euchre, cooking meals for family, antiquing, drinking sweet tea on her porch and loving her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, so well that words simply cannot describe.
She prided herself by her home, her food, and her family. She was selfless and never required much to be happy. Etna would host a family dinner once a week for many, many years. Anyone and everyone, friend, family or stranger were welcome and all she wanted was everyone to leave with a full stomach and a happy heart.
Best known as one of her endearing nicknames, Mom, Momma, Gramus, Mamus, Mams, MeMe or Auntie Etna, and sometimes just as, "Old Lady" she will be dearly missed by many, including her children, Mary "Chris" Breedlove, John White Jr. (Charity), Shelia White, all of Morgantown and Heather White (Barb), of Franklin; grandchildren, Brittany Breedlove-Kesler (Travis) of Columbus, Bradley Breedlove and Elias White both of Morgantown; great-grandsons, Greyson Kesler, Rowen Kesler and Ace Kesler all of Columbus; siblings, Margaret Nelson, of Greenwood, Juanita Graham of Bargersville, Jack Hamblen (Sandy) of Nineveh and Judy Hall (Roger) of Peoga as well as many nieces and nephews that she held very dear.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Christine Hamblen and her brother Kenneth Minett.
A Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 29th from 2pm-6pm at 4th Street Bar: 433 4th Street in Columbus, Indiana. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith Funeral Home in Morgantown.
