Etta Johnson Obituary
Etta Rocine Wilbanks Johnson
October 5, 1939 – November 5, 2025
Rincon, Georgia – Etta Rocine Wilbanks Johnson, 86, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025.
Rocine was born on October 5, 1939 in Harvest, Alabama, and enjoyed a wonderful childhood surrounded by her six brothers. She later married Kenneth Johnson, and together they moved to Davie, Florida, to begin their life and family. The couple shared an entrepreneurial spirit, opening the Blue Moon Restaurant in Miami and operating a car lot.
Rocine loved her work with the Broward County School System and continued to pursue business ventures throughout her life, including opening a fish market on the Hillsboro Inlet and running The Pit Stop in Davie, where she was known and loved by many loyal customers.
A devoted Christian, Rocine was deeply involved in her Baptist church community in South Florida and made countless lifelong friends there. She was known for her generous heart and caring nature, always putting the needs of others before her own. She spent several years back in Harvest, AL caring for her mother until the end of her mother's life-a reflection of her lifelong devotion to family.
In 2023, Rocine moved to Rincon, Georgia, to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and her family. She found great joy in crafting with her great-grandchildren and sneaking them little treats. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rincon. She volunteered at Manna House, and loved creating wreaths, crafting, gardening, shopping and spending time with friends. Her greatest joy was caring for others, sharing love, laughter, and kindness wherever she went.
Rocine was preceded in death by her parents, Pernia and Irene Satterfield Wilbanks; her husband, William Kenneth Johnson; her sons, Danny Johnson, David Johnson, and Jonathan Johnson; and her brothers, Lloyd Wilbanks and Wayne Wilbanks.
She is survived by her son, Mark Johnson (Cathy Marchione); her daughter, Cindy Petryszak (John); her grandchildren, David, Kimberly, Bobbie-Jo, Matt, Jonny, Amanda (Will), Ashley (Gonzalo), and E.J.; her great-grandchildren, Skylar, Thomas, Lilliann, Colton, Joseph, William, Emma, and Jack; her brothers, Bill Wilbanks, Ed Wilbanks, Wendell Wilbanks, and Ronald Wilbanks; and numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel.
