A Life Filled with Love
Etta Mae Jones
July 6, 1930 - December 24, 2025
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day." 2 Timothy 4:7–8
After a full and long life filled with love and friendship, Etta Mae Jones peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on December 24, 2025, surrounded by the comfort of the life she built and the love she shared so freely with others.
Born on July 6, 1930 in Lattimore, North Carolina to John Henry & Eunia May Colquette, Etta was one of thirteen children, the eldest sister, and grew up on a hardworking farm rooted in family and love.
Etta left home and traveled to New York in pursuit of higher education, where she earned a degree in radiologic technology, excelling in her studies and graduating at the top of her class, before going on to receive her master's degree.
Throughout her life, Etta had a love for plays and performance which reflected her appreciation for meaningful expression and storytelling. In time, that passion guided her to Reverend Brown and Saint Phillips Baptist Church, where her faith and sense of belonging grew.
From this foundation of faith and community, she met her beloved husband, Carl, and together they would go on to share 46 years of devoted marriage. Their life together included both loss and blessings, as they welcomed a son who was stillborn and later were blessed with their daughter, Marcea.
Etta lived a full and joyous life of service to God, her church, her family, and her community. Her faith was expressed through her service as a member of the Guiding Lights Church Choir, later known as the Senior Choir, and the Senior Ministry. She also served as a church nurse and enjoyed supporting the church's Summer Vacation Bible School program. Etta found great joy in fellowship, regularly participating in outings and church events alongside her brothers and sisters in Christ. She was a proud member of the NAACP. With her beloved husband, Carl, by her side, she found great joy in traveling and creating cherished memories together.
Etta was preceded in death by her loving parents; her dear sisters Doris, Vera, Lucille, and Shirley; her beloved brothers Charlie, Jay and George, and her cherished husband, Carl.
To carry on her legacy of love, she leaves behind her devoted sisters, Leatha, Daisy, and Sylvia; and her beloved brothers, Lester and James, who shared in her life, laughter, and faith. She is also survived by her cherished daughter, Marcea, and grandchildren, Hayden, Brandon Jr., and Hailey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and countless friends who were touched by her love, her faith, and the life she so generously shared.

Aunt Etta you were a beautiful light that will now shine eternally. May you rest in peace for all eternity. Know that you are loved and will be missed greatly by me. I´ll miss our phone conversations, I´ll miss your smile. More importantly, I´ll simply miss you and the warmth I felt when you were in the room. I love you, yesterday, today and tomorrow!
