Eugene L. "Geno" Abbott, age 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at Carbondale Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, August 29, 2023.
Eugene was born in Benton on October 7, 1935, the son of Ocie and Lillie (Parr) Abbott. Prior to his retirement, he proudly worked as a butcher.
Survivors include his son- Joe (Tonya Yard) Abbott of Du Quoin; daughter- Wendy (William Daffron) Abbott of Manteno; two grandchildren- Alison Gomez and Colin Hooks; four great grandchildren- Marley Vocu, Penelope Gomez, Max Gomez, and Isla Hooks; his nieces and special caregivers- Yvonne Overton and Ronna Martin; and several other nieces and nephews whom he also adored.
Geno was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters- Opal McDonald, Nadine Jones, Imogene Cook, Vera Ruby-Fleming, and Betty Garrett; and four brothers- Lloyd, Harold, James, and Henry Abbott.
In honor of Geno's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no services will be held at this time. We invite you to please privately celebrate Geno in your own way. The family would like to thank everyone for their understanding during this difficult time.
