I sure miss my beloved Uncle Gene. I miss many things about him but most of all, I miss hearing his take on the events of the day and how he made me laugh! I also miss his hugs. Rest in peace and know that you will never be forgotten.

Gene was an incredible human being. He loved everybody and was loved by all in return. When first meeting this giant of a man, he gave me a bear hug. I am only 5'8"". I was amazed and thrilled. He was the most outgoing person I have ever met. God bless his memory and God bless his soul.

My heart is with the family of Gene at this time. I had the pleasure of meeting him and his beautiful wife Kaye, in 2014 for the Honor Flight. I was Gene´s guardian that day and it made me so happy to have this experience with him, as I wasn´t able to get to know my own grandfather who was in WWII and the Korean War. Getting to know him was such a joy and he made feel like I was family instantly. Gene had this immeasurable gift of making you smile and laugh, he was so happy to travel the capitol and the monuments with me. Over the years, I had lost touch with this beautiful family due to some personal tragedies. Lately, he had been on my mind and I tried to look up information to get in touch. Seeing that he passed, makes me wish I had tried to get in touch sooner. The Allen´s are always in my thoughts and prayers. While we only spent a small amount of time together, he and his devoted wife Kaye, impacted me to the core. They made me believe that love exists, to persevere, and to not let anyone make you think you are less than amazing. Thank you for sharing your husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather with me. He will be missed but forever remembered in the hearts he leaves behind.
All my love,

Words can´t express how sad I am to lose my beloved uncle, Eugene Allen. I´ve known him since I was 7 years old when he started dating my mom´s sister, Kaye. At that time, Kaye lived with us in Philadelphia and I was the bratty niece who always interrupted their "courting" time in our living room. He was a career officer for 22 years in the USAF and one of my fondest memories is when he was stationed in Alaska for a year or so in the early 60´s, he would call us and my mom would yell into the phone, "Can you hear me, Gene?" Long before cell phones, she wasn´t sure she could be heard over 4,000 miles away. It was hard on the ears of me and my dad who would be on extensions in other parts of the house. Gene has always been a steady, loving, supportive, constant in my life. Smart, warm, a people person, and great problem solver. Our political outlooks were widely divergent from my teenage years on, but Gene always gave me a respectful hearing and loved me anyway. He was also so welcoming to Ann. I will miss him dearly. My deepest condolences to Kaye, Whitni, and Nancy.

My first memory of this wonderful man, Gene. I was a new member of Children's Hospital board. I am 5'8" tall. At the first meeting and when I first met Gene, this enormous man came up and gave me a huge bear hug. I fell in love with Gene then and love him still. He really was a giant of a man in all respects. My deepest sympathy to Kaye and family.

I met Eugene as a volunteer for the Palmetto Health Cancer Board (now Prisma). He is the kindest, most engaging man I have ever met. He and his wife made the most beautiful, loving couple. It was a joy just to be in their presence. Gene's first year at Palmetto Health - we were involved in a team building exercise. We laughed the whole time and I fell in love. Gene will be missed but I will cherish the fact that I knew him.
