I am a fellow Notre Dame grad and also a former resaident of Memphis, TN that had many occasions to socialize with Gene at Notre Dame activities. A fine gentleman who indeed was truly interested in the people with whom he enaged.

I too moved away from Memphis and at one point was living in Connecticut when ND played Army at Yankee Stadium. That was the last time I ran into Gene. Great catch-up. God bless him.

Gene and I met on the Notre Dame Alumni Board (NDAA) in 2003. I was the incoming President and Gene was a first year on the board. We bonded immediately with our similar backgrounds (accounting, public accounting at KPMG, corporate careers) and his cousin Bill was a friend and ND `83 classmate of mine.
Gene was great energy to be around. He was always talking and sharing great stories and asking great questions. Loved his vast knowledge on almost any topic. When he became President of the NDAA a few years later, we were forever bonded in this group of ND leaders and loyalists. I was fortunate to see Gene a few years ago at a football tailgate. He was struggling physically yet his sense of humor and storytelling was as sharp as ever. I´ll miss you my friend. Thank you for your friendship and for sharing your family and self with me and so many others. Sending love and prayers to your entire family. We´ll meet again my friend and I´ll be ready for some great stories! Love you Gene.
