It's so sad to lose a dear friend & cousin, but it's really sad when you don't hear about that loose days later. I know things like this happen & it;s no one"s fault.
I guess as we get older(a lot older) we lose touch with a lot of friends and especially relatives.
Our condolences go out to all the family and we're sincerely sorry.

o Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Eugene Burns. His fellow troopers of the 11th Armored Cavalry´s Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia, salute our fallen brother. Eugene served courageously with I (Eye) Troop of the Regiment's 3rd Squadron in 1968 and 1969, and it was our privilege to have him in the ranks of the Legendary Blackhorse Regiment. He distinguished himself and added to the legend of Blackhorse Troopers throughout his service in hostile territory. Awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and awarded three Purple Hearts, he set standards so high, that few could match his achievements and bravery. Our loss is that of another brother down and we will continue to honor his memory at our gatherings and at our annual reunion. He was an exemplary soldier. His name will be listed on the roll of our honored dead and in our newsletter, Thunder Run. But as our Burial Liturgy clearly states: "life has not ended, merely changed" and Eugene "Bookie" Burns' soul continues on an endless path. As we were together then (in Vietnam), we will be together again in the life hereafter, comfortably enfolded in the loving arms of our Merciful Father.

o Chaplain Blandin W. Karabinos, 11th ACVVC (Vietnam 71-72)

Bookie was my first roommate at The Citadel, he looked out for me, it was nice to have a roommate from Charleston! He left school after our junior year- but came back and stayed in the barracks the night before we graduated in June 1967. I know he will be missed, such a beautiful family, please remember all the good times..

Much sympathy to the Burns clan, who were always extended family to the McConnells and the McCrarys in Byrnes Downs, at Live Oak Plantation and on Lake Moultrie at Bonneau. There are too many memories to recount and Bookie was a big part of all of them. What a good guy. I'll miss him.
