Eugene P. Capezio

Eugene Picholli Capezio, known to many as "Gene" or "Uncle Gene," passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, at the age of 85. Gene was a devoted husband, brother, and friend whose life was marked by deep faith, service to his community and a love for his family.
Gene married his beloved wife, Mary "Marsha" Marshall Owen, on July 19, 1988. Together, they shared many years of happiness, building a life centered around family, faith, and mutual care.
A committed member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Freedom, PA, Gene was a devoted parishioner. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 455, Sons of Italy, and Knights of Columbus.
Gene briefly studied to become a priest but ultimately chose to dedicate his life to teaching religious education, where he made a lasting impact on many. His unwavering faith and passion for sharing it with others were evident in everything he did.
In addition to his spiritual commitment, Gene was an entrepreneur, owning and operating Capezio's Razor's Edge barbershop and Anybody's Saloon in Fells Point. He was known for his kindness and generosity to those who crossed his path. His hobbies included spending time with family, gardening, and cooking-passions he shared with those closest to him.
Gene was predeceased by his parents, Marion Joseph Capezio Sr. and Mary F. Guarino Capezio, and siblings Marie, Marguerite, Marion, Anthony and Antoinette. He is survived by his sister, Anna Capezio D'Orazio, and his brother, Peter Capezio.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on January 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Avenue, New Freedom, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in person or by mail to St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Gene's passing leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew him, but his legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to inspire and guide those who had the privilege of sharing in his journey. He will always be remembered with love and gratitude by all whose lives he touched.
