Eugene "Gene" E. Cole, 84 of Charlestown, Ohio passed away Friday, September 19, 2025. He was born October 31, 1940 in Akron, Ohio to the late Lesel and Gertrude Cole.

Gene proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. He worked for North American Aviation, working on the experimental XB-70 Valkyrie plane. Additionally, Gene served as a volunteer firefighter for Palmyra and Paris Townships. Furthermore, he worked as a humane officer for Portage County APL and retired from Walmart after many years in maintenance.

Gene was considered a handyman and loved all animals.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dale and Leon Cole and sister, Lynn.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Barb; children, Shelley (Lisa) Kaloci, Iduna Starhawke (Jacob), Phil (Jennie) Cole and Chris Cole (Kim); several grandchildren; brothers, Ernest Cole, Duane Cole and sister Helen Shepherd; many nieces, nephews, and extended family; best friend Mr. Ray Dietz, and beloved dog, Churro.

In honoring Gene's wishes he was cremated. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Gene's name to the Portage County APL, 8122 Infirmary Rd. Ravenna, Ohio 44266. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
