Eugene Wallace "Gene" Gray

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and friend, Eugene "Gene" Wallace Gray. Born April 2, 1946 in Kingsport, Tennessee to Elmer and Edith Gray, he passed through this world and left us on Thursday, August 29, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents; Elmer and Edith Gray (Carr) and daughter, Amy Michelle Gray. He leaves behind to mourn his loss, his devoted and loving wife Elizabeth; his sons, Dr. John Gray, wife Lynne and daughter McKay; David Gray wife Sabrina and sons Jayden and Brennan and their mother Dawna Gray; step-son, Andrew Hurd wife Jessica and daughter Kennedy; step-daughter, Amy Arline husband Tom; sister, Shirley Anger husband Larry; sister, Patricia; nephews, nieces and friends. His blended family gave him much pride and joy. Gene was in the US Air Force from 1964 to 1968 having served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War at Don Maung Air Base Thailand. He received the Air Force Commendation Award for his service at Don Maung in 1965-66 and in 1968 received an Honorable Discharge at Scott AFB Illinois. He later worked and retired as Vice President Indirect Lending from Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union with 32 years of service. Though he did not belong to a local church he was of the Methodist faith having grown up and baptized at Holston View United Methodist Church, Weber City, Virginia. A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway with full military honors. In lieu of flowers Gene requests you donate to East Tennessee Honor Guard, East Tennessee Children's Hospital [in memory of Amy Michelle Gray] or Shriners Hospital for Children [in memory of Ray Akers].
