Eugene R. Harvey (Gene)
Born March 10, 1934 in Fresno, Ca.
After a lengthy bout with Alzheimer's disease, Gene passed away peacefully on July 17 2024. A lifelong resident of North Fork, he attended North Fork Elementary School, graduated from Sierra High School in 1952 where he played varsity football, basketball, and baseball. He had a great love for the mountains. At the age of 13 he accompanied the O'Neal cattle drive and cared for the pack horses for the summer.
He entered the U.S. Naval Reserves while still in high school, and was discharged from active duty in 1956 after serving in Guam as a Radioman 3rd class.
Upon discharge from the service, Gene worked for PG&E as a ditch tender and then as a gas serviceman. He became a Fresno City Firefighter in 1964, and was very proud that out of hundreds of applicants he was #2 on the selection list. He retired in 1994 as an Engineer.
Gene was a devoted family man and a longtime active member of the North Fork Lions Club. He enjoyed flipping flapjacks at the annual Loggers Jamboree pancake breakfast. He also enjoyed many years riding his horse and raising cattle with his good friend JT Hutchens.
He was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Ruth Harvey of North Fork and daughter Terry O'Donnell of Pine Haven, WY.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Georgia Harvey of North Fork, sons Edward Harvey of North Fork, Matthew Harvey of Vashon Island, WA, and Phillip Harvey of North Fork. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in North Fork on August 23rd at 10:00 a.m., followed by graveside services at North Fork Cemetery.
A hosted luncheon at North Fork Town Hall will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's
Association.
