Eugene George Khorey, age 99, of Munhall, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026 at The Village of Heather Hills in
Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he resided surrounded by newfound friends since July, 2024.
Mr. Khorey was born in
Latrobe, PA on March 20, 1926, the son of George and Afeefy (Koury) Khorey. He joined the Army upon graduation from high school in 1944. He served with the 86th Infantry ("Blackhawk") Division in both the European and Pacific theaters and was awarded the Bronze Star. After his service to his country he worked at U.S Steel's Homestead Works before attending Edinboro State Teachers College and the University of Pittsburgh. In 1954 he began a long career with the Pittsburgh Public Schools as a teacher, counselor, principal, and administrator. Throughout his life he maintained relationships with former students, especially students from Brashear High School which he helped open as its first principal. He remained active in many civic and community affairs into his 90's and was a lifelong and faithful member of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church.
Mr. Khorey was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Margaret (Yanyo) Khorey; his parents; his brothers, Edward and Russell (Violet), and a sister, Marlene; and many fondly remembered cousins, colleagues, and friends.
He is survived by his children, Denise Jeanne Khorey-Harriman (the late Robert) of Somerset, PA; Rev. David (Jennifer) Khorey of Grand Rapids; and Douglas Khorey (Melissa) of
Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren, Christopher (Alison) Khorey, Analee Harriman, Katherine (Rajat) Khanna, Wendy (Tom) Munkittrick, Joanna (Will) Hyry, Noah Khorey, Nina (Chasee) Teasdale, and Alex Khorey; great-grandchildren George and Margaret Khorey; his special nieces Robin and Marlene Khorey and Dr. Lynn Yanyo and Laurie Barksdale; his brother and sister in law Larry and Caryl Yanyo; and many cherished cousins of several generations.
Visitation will be held in Grand Rapids at St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2250 E. Paris SE from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 3, with Trisagion prayers of mercy at 7:30 pm, and in Munhall at Savolskis-Wasik-Glenn Funeral Home, 3501 Main Street, on Friday, February 6, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm, with services at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, 3400 Dawson Street, Pittsburgh PA 15213, on Saturday, February 7, visitation beginning at 10:00 am and funeral at 11:00 am, followed by a meal of mercy at the church and interment at Lebanon Church Cemetery in West Mifflin.
