Lucas & Son Funeral Home - PikevilleEugene Lucas age 85, passed away August 15, 2025, at his home. He was born on February 17, 1940, to the late Challie and Mary Elizabeth Elkins Lucas. Eugene married his loving wife Nancy Woody Lucas in 1961 and together they nurtured a warm and united family. For 25 years, Eugene contributed to the community as a coal miner at Beth Elkhorn Mining and a proud member of the UMWA. His dedication extended beyond his career; he served in the United States Army, where he exemplified the values of honor and service. Since 1967, he was a proud member of the Elkhorn Old Regular Baptist Church, where he found solace and fellowship among his church community.
Eugene is survived by one daughter, Shantae L. Lucas, one son Barry Eugene (Missy) Lucas, one brother Noah Jackson (Shirley) Lucas, one sister, Linda Carol Jones, one granddaughter, Megan (Matt) Butler, three grandsons Logan (Kaci) Lucas, Jesse (Elizabeth) Lucas, Jamarion Lucas, eight great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, four step great-grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.
Eugene was preceded in death one sister, Joyce Ann Elkins, and three brothers Challie Lucas Jr., Willie Lucas, and Johnny Thurman Lucas. Their memories and love will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Monday August 18 and Tuesday 19, 2025, beginning at 5:30 PM with church services beginning at 6:30 PM nightly at Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday August 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Lucas & Son Funeral Home with entombment to follow at RH Ratliff Mausoleum, Shelbiana, KY.
