Eugene Mandrea Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldman Funeral Group - Skokie Chapel on Jan. 8, 2026.
Eugene Mandrea, MD, Age 94, of Northbrook, born in Romania and was a Holocaust survivor. Eugene received his medical training in France and in the United States and practiced dermatology lovingly for 57 years in Oak Lawn, Orland Park, Palos Heights, Lakeview and Park Ridge. He was on staff at Christ Hospital, Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Palos Community Hospital and Little Company of Mary. Eugene was the beloved husband for 53 years of Rochelle "Shelly" Mandrea, nee Ezgur; loving father of Michael (Brooke) Mandrea, Steven (Marisa) Mandrea, MD, and Monique (Carey) Melnick; adored grandpa of Andrew, Seth, Max, Josie, Arielle, Mackenzie, Audrey, Elliot, Jessica, and Carson; devoted son of the late Nathan Mendelsohn and the late Rose Mandrea; cherished brother of the late Hermine (late Jan) Nagel; dear brother-in-law of Jerrold (Harlie) Ezgur; treasured uncle of Michael (Wendi) Ezgur and Rick Ezgur (Brian Sutherby) and friend to many. Eugene was a brilliant physician, who was dedicated to his dermatology practice, but more importantly to his family. As a Romanian refugee with nothing but his passion for learning, humility, and strong desire to practice medicine, Eugene worked tirelessly to build a beautiful life for his family. He was a voracious reader, especially of world history, with a photographic memory for specific dates and details that mirrored his own life experiences. His passion for classical music, especially Bach, comforted him throughout his life. His family gave him his greatest joy. He will be dearly missed by all. Service Friday, 12 noon CT, at The Chapel, 8851 Skokie Blvd., Skokie (at Niles Center Rd.) Eugene's service will be live streamed at www.goldmanfuneralgroup.com. Interment Westlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to any of Jewish charity, to the American Academy of Dermatology, www.aad.org, or autismspeaks.org. Info: the GOLDMAN FUNERAL GROUP (847) 478-1600.
